Life After The War
After the war was over the SS men disguised themselves so they would not get caught by the Russians. Mengele was now an "infantry German soldier" and was caught, but he was let go due to his new identification. No one knew exactly who he was. Mengele decided to go to Argentina. He was helped in this by the International Committee of the Red Cross who provided travel papers for people as a humanitarian gesture. With a false name, identity and Italian residency papers, Mengele moved to Argentina in 1949. He had countless fake I.D's throughout his life in South America to avoid getting caught. It worked. Mengele died in 1979 while swimming in Brazil after he suffered a stroke and drowned. A murder lived among the world for 35 years after his vile acts against humanity.
